Workload: how to gain insight and prevent overload
A full schedule doesn't automatically mean your team is working efficiently. One employee might be operating at maximum capacity for weeks, while a colleague still has room to take on more work. Or perhaps your schedule looks achievable until annual leave, meetings, urgent work and other projects are taken into account.
Without a clear view of workload, it's difficult to distribute work realistically. Often, you only realise there's a problem when deadlines come under pressure, employees become overloaded or work has to be postponed.
By making workload part of your planning process, you can identify available capacity and potential bottlenecks much earlier. This allows you to distribute work more effectively across employees, teams and different periods.
But what exactly is workload? How do you measure it? And how can software help you gain insight into your team's workload?
